Let’s face it—life doesn’t always turn out the way we expect. The moments we find ourselves hurt, angry, or disappointed can lead to a profound, often painful, silence in our relationship with God. Maybe you’re in one of those seasons now, feeling let down, wrestling with questions, or wondering why things aren’t falling into place despite all your prayers and efforts. I want you to know that you’re not alone.
Acknowledging the Hurt
First, let’s honor the reality of these feelings. Anger and disappointment are natural responses to unmet expectations or unfulfilled dreams. When life brings hardship, the idea of an all-loving, all-knowing God can feel confusing, and maybe even frustrating. Instead of brushing these emotions aside, try acknowledging them without judgment. This is where healing starts—by facing what we’re feeling, rather than suppressing it.
Finding Grace in Honest Conversations with God
God already knows the depths of our hearts. He isn’t surprised by our anger, sadness, or even disbelief. In fact, the Psalms remind us of the importance of honest conversation with Him. David, a man after God’s own heart, often poured out his despair and confusion in raw, unfiltered prayers. God invites us to do the same.
When I found myself questioning His plans, I learned that God’s love doesn’t diminish because of my questions. Instead, He meets me in them. Start by speaking honestly, even if it’s painful. Pour out your heart, and tell Him where you’re hurting. The relief that follows will open space for understanding and deeper intimacy with Him.
Remind Yourself (and God) of His Promises
When anger or disappointment starts to cloud our perspective, we sometimes forget the promises God has already made. One of the most powerful practices I’ve found is reminding both myself and God of His word. His promises give us a foundation to stand on when our emotions feel overwhelming.
Maybe you’re in need of financial breakthrough, health, or emotional healing. Take some time to revisit His promises. Speak them aloud over your situation, affirming the truth even when it feels far from your reality. This helps redirect your focus from the problem to the One who is greater than any circumstance.
Journaling Through the Storm
Writing has always been one of my ways to process emotions, especially the ones that seem tangled and hard to sort out. In my journal, I let my thoughts flow without judgment, capturing whatever I feel. There’s a healing power in seeing your pain on paper—it allows you to step back, gain perspective, and trace God’s hand even in the midst of hardship.
If you’re dealing with anger or disappointment, try journaling as a way to release and reflect. Record your prayers, your questions, and any promises God brings to mind. Over time, you’ll start to see a journey unfolding, one that highlights God’s faithfulness through every storm.
Taking Action: Showing Up Despite the Pain
One of the hardest but most powerful steps is showing up, even when your heart feels heavy. For me, this can mean something as simple as tidying my home, getting dressed, or starting my day with intention. When I feel overwhelmed, just the act of moving forward—even in small ways—can break the cycle of despair.
This is resilience in action: choosing to rise, even when you’re tempted to stay down. It’s a reminder that, while we may not control our circumstances, we can choose how we respond to them.
My Personal Journey of Resilience
This journey isn’t one I write about hypothetically. Recently, I found myself facing the reality of an eviction notice, after just coming out of homelessness 4 weeks prior—an experience that tested my faith deeply. But in that moment, I realized that God calls me to prophesy over my life and speak hope into every part of my journey. This doesn’t mean I don’t feel the pain or question the process, but I choose to declare His promises over my situation and let His truth shape my reality.
God called me the Resilience Transformation Coach, and my life continues to be proof that faith isn’t always easy, but it’s worth every step.
Rebuilding with Resilience, Faith, and Determination
If you’re wrestling with anger or disappointment toward God, I encourage you to let go of the guilt and embrace this part of your journey. This may be the very season that strengthens your faith and shapes your resilience. Life’s most challenging moments can become our greatest teachers.
My prayer is that this post encourages you to stop running from these feelings and instead start rebuilding—with resilience, faith, and determination. Keep showing up. Keep believing. And remember that God sees every tear, every prayer, and every step you take toward healing.
